The Prelude Hymnal

A hymnal written for instrumentalists in the prelude of music ministry.

The Story Behind
The Prelude Hymnal

The Prelude Hymnal is an idea birthed from a pianist in the earliest stages of her music ministry. Though she had started piano lessons at the age of ten, music didn’t come to her easily – especially not the aspects of sight reading, chord analysis, and playing in public! While in high school, she was asked to fill in as the church pianist on a few spare occasions. Each occasion brought a myriad of challenges to the young pianist’s mind – one of which was having a prelude prepared. Preferably, a prelude that she could continue playing for more than five minutes without stumbling into a set of hymns or a songs she didn’t recognize, or worse – the Christmas section in the middle of July!

That pianist was Nicole Sekol, and her solution was to organize a brand-new compilation of well-known hymns in familiar keys and simple chords for the beginning church pianist.

Our passion for Christ-honoring music ministry and excellence from even the earliest stages is what fuels our desire to take on this project. Far too many churches – in America and nationwide – stand without a pianist comfortable enough to serve in the capacity of church pianist. While not necessary, a church pianist adds support and encouragement to a congregation seeking to worship the Lord and praise His wondrous works.
